HSI Professional Review
This flat iron’s claim to fame is its frizz fighting abilities. Unlike other, lower end flat irons that can actually make your hair frizzier, by creating static electricity on the shaft as the plates pass along the hair, this HSI Professional actually smoothes, seals, and repeals static electricity with ion technology.
It also has a speedy heat-up features that allows you to significantly cut down your preparation time. In the past, you either have to turn your flat iron on and leave it to heat up while you get dressed or shower, you can now plug it in and in a few seconds have a perfectly hot unit to begin the styling process.
This 1-inch flat iron is housed in a black, rounded case. The plates themselves are ceramic, infused with tourmaline and ions for smoother hair and less snagging. The handle has been texturized, in order to allow for the best grip, and the unit even has dual voltage, so it can be used anywhere in the world.
The power cord itself is over seven feet long and swivels, making it easy to use the unit from any angle. The plates are seated high in the casing, making it easy to clamp a section of hair, without worrying about whether or not the casing will get in the way of the plates. The heat selections are adjusted by a + and – and digital read out.
In addition to the 1-inch model, there is also a 1.25-inch and 1-inch without a digital temperature read out. On all of these models, the heat ranges from 140 degrees to 410 degrees Fahrenheit, which is an impressive range of temperatures.
This is one of the most widely used and widely loved flat irons, both in homes and in hair salons, and for good reason. It heats up quickly, has consistent heat output, and with tourmaline-infused plates, will not damage your hair. The wide variety of temperature settings make this flat iron great whether you have fine hair, or very thick and curly hair. And because the plates are ionized, they will not drain away you hair’s moisture. Instead, they will seal it in. The rounded casing makes this unit great for creating all different styles, not just pin-straight looks.
This flat iron’s one serious issue is that it does not maintain high heats very effectively. It is equipped with the ability to sense when it is and when it is not at the desired heat, and has a red and green indicator to that effect. After each section of hair, you may have to wait a few seconds before it again returns to full heat.
Out of all of the premier flat irons on the market, this is by far the best. It works well for all different types of hair and to create a variety of styles. Though some women do experience issues with the heating settings, it is only at very high heats and the delay is only for a few seconds, still making this worth the purchase. Even if you have to use one of those higher settings, it will still straighten faster and with a better result than any other unit.
